THE MAORI BATTALION,
Maori loyalty was expressed bv the , 1 'Ifhauwaho. of Ooho-o-Rawiri and the \\ hangara parish, at a farewell to the main X.C.O. draft for the second echelon, which left Gisborne for Trentiiain with a group of Maori soldiers who will later take non-commission rank in the Maori Battalion. "To-day the races stand shoulder to 3 i°Vr. one cause in the service or His Majesty's Government and for the maintenance of our democratic Erapire, said the Rev Wi Teliauwaho. VVe look upon ourselves as brothers united under the King, and we realise that 0111 bonds of brotherhood are firmer than ever before." The Maori group will be under the guidance of Mr. Parekura Tureia. who saw service in the Great-War, and. prior to joining up, was on the staff of the iai-Rawhiti Native Land Board.
