DONNELLY AT LAST.

CENTURY FOR CANTERBURY.

OTAGO 125 BEHIND O(N THE

FIRST INNINGS,

ROBERTSON" CARRIES BAT ALL WAY

(By Telegraph.—Pre*s Association.)

CHRI ST CHURCH, Monday.

Conditions on Saturday could hardly have been better for play in the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Otago, the weather being tine and warm, with'a light breeze.-The wicket and fast outfield were in favour of the batsmen. Opening the innings, lie lost Kerr when the total was three, but carried on to give a ehanceless display. A solid innings of 83 not out by Robertson, who batted right through Otago's innings, saved the southern side from a complete collapse to-day. He was assisted iu a tine sixth-wicket stand of 88 by KiiUier, who made 47. Apart from these two, there was little of note in the innings, which realised '249, giving Canterbury a lead of 123 on the first innings. The Canterbury bowlers, Mcßae, Davis, Roberts and Cromb. were never subdued, .Mc Rae bowling exceptionally well to take four wickets for 38 runs off 23 overs. The Canterbury fielding was not as good as that of Otago, but any chances that were dropped were hard ones. Canterbury batted again for less than half an hour and lost K.erj* and O'Brien for 12 runs, but Donnelly and Hadlee played out time. The scores were: —
