AUCKLAND TROTS.

HANDICAPS DECLARED. FIELD IN THE JELLICOE. RED FLUSH MAY ATONE. * Handicaps for the eight events to be decided on the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting, wliich is t-o be held at Alexandra Park on Saturday and Monday, October 21 and 23, have been declared by Mr. A. Tronson, and, although only nine pacers appear in the Jellicoe Handicap, 'the principal race, there is material for a spirited contest. Three horses appear the limit in the Jellicoe, ami they are Bayard, Compass, Red Flush- The first-named, a six-year-old son of Frank Worthy and Bonny Logan, commenced a successful career in this province in January last, when he won the Cambridge Handicap, two miles, from Bold Venture and Transwell, after covering the distance in 4.31. Less than a month later he recorded 3.16 at Hutt Park, Wellington, to win the Kia Ora Handicap. At Hawera, the little fellow— he is only 14-1 hands —recorded 4.28 to score, and he also won a mile and a quarter race at Epsom. It will be seen, therefore, that liia form is good, and, as the limit for this race is 4.34. his prospects must be considered bright.

Compass has not won for over 12 months, but the Man o' War gelding has done very little racing. His last start was in the August Handicap at Alexandra Park six weeks ago. He looked well then, but failed to allow up and should be held safe by Bayard and Bed Flush. The latter was a brilliant performer over all distances three seasons ago, and was later given a lengthy spell. Reproduced at Epsom on Alay 27, after one run at Claudelands, he won the Cornwall Handicap from Parauri and 13 others, and, on the second day, was just beaten by Kenworthy in the C. F. Mark Memorial Handicap, one mile and a half. A hot favourite for the last August Handicaj, Red Flush failed to impress at any stage of the race, and that was by no means his form. The track was very heavy, which is a possible explanation of his failure. He is a rare stayer, and should be extremely hard to beatNeither Kewpie's King nor Kewpie's Triumph, both on 12yds, have good recent performances to commend them, and it is safe to say that the latter, now getting on in years, is past his best. Gold Dredge, 36yds. is another with nothing niuch in her favour. Our McKinney, 24yds, was a consistent winner a couple of years ago, and, following a spell, he returned to form in the August Handicap, which he won in good style from Kenworthy and Kewpie's King. He is a true stayer and is entitled to. respect. Sandusky and Uenuku, two of the backmarkers, are other proved performers over two miles. Sandusky has a number of wins to his credit, and when he finished just behind the place-getters in the August Handicap he was not long up from a spell. He should be a much better horse now. Uenuku is regarded as the best young hoi-se in the North Island, and rightly so. He holds the Alexandra Park track record of 3.13 2-5 for a mile and a half, and he finished up last season with three wins in succession, including the Adams Memorial Handicap and the Liverpool Handicap. Uenuku combines brilliancy with stamina, but it is not unlikely that he is being given a special preparation for the Auck-! land Cup at Christmas time and may not I be at his best at this fixture.

Those mentioned in earlv discussions will probably be Rod Flush, Sandusky, Bayard and Our McKinney. The acceptances are: — WAITEMATA HANDICAP (Trotters) of £200. One mile and a half. Limit 3.40.
