WATERSIDER'S DEATH.

CLAIM FOB COMPENSATION. In the Arbitration Court yesterday Mrs. Alice Emily May Spurr (Mr. J. J. Sullivan) claimed against Richardson Steamship Line (Messrs. Allan Moody ond F. McCarthy), the sum of £28 13/ medical, ambulance ami funeral expenses, and such. other relief as the Court 'thought just in connection with the death of her father, Mr. Melville Holmes. Evidence was led .that Air. Holmes, a waterside worker, fell into.the harbour about 0 p.m. on June 22, 1935, and though quickly rescued died almost l immediately. At the time he and others had just been paid off and werel dispersing in the dusk, after waiting at King's wharf to work cargo on the' motor ship Pukeko, which did not arrive to time. It was argued for claimant that Mr. Holmes was on his way to the union rooms to leave his trade implements there whpn the accident occurred, and that death.consequently arose out of and in the course of his employment by defendant company. After having heard evidence and argument, the Court reserved decision.
