DOMINION'S PART.
IN FINANCING WAR.
SACRIFICES TO BE MADE.
LEGISLATION NEXT WEEK. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Parliament's work yesterday was marked by important announcements made during the afternoon sitting by the aeting-Primc Minister, Mr. Eraser, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, outlining the part New Zealand is to play in the war. These statements were in effect a forecast of legislation that will bo introduced next week, but until the bills dealing with finance have been presented to the House the public can form no definite opinion of the extent of the sacrifices they will be called on to make.
After the Supplementary Estimateshad been disposed of the Appropriation Bill was introduced and read a first time. This measure gives legislative effect to all Departmental expenditure and annual appropriations.
Before tlie House rose at 5 p.m. Mr. G. W. Forbes (National, Hurunui), who was deputising for the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Hamilton, asked the acting-Prime Minister to indicate the business contemplated in the coming week, and was informed that it was hoped to have the war finance measures ready for Tuesday, otherwise the House would proceed with several small bills which were now before committees.
Mr. Forbes smilingly suggested that there was a possibility that the House would have to fall back on the Alsatian Dog Bill, and Mr. Fraser, with mock seriousness, replied that he hoped the place would not go to the dogs before it finished its business.
