BRAVERY OF SCOUT.

KINGSLAND BOY'S AWARD.

WELLINGTON", Friday.

The silver cross of the Boy Scouts'] Association has been awarded to Scout Alan Laweon, of Auckland, for bravery and presence of mind in saving hie 'brothers life. The Dominion headquarters of the association announces that \ iscount Galway, as Dominion Chief Scout, has approved this award. Scout Laweon 13 stated to have displayed commendable courage and presence of mind in extinguishing his brother's burning clothing at considerable risk to himself. He is a member of the Wesley Boy Scout Troop, Kingsland, Auckland. His younger brother was playing near a grass fire on a railway embankment when his clothes caught fire. H© became enveloped in flames. A worker from a near-by factory saw the child's plight and tried to assist him, but the terrified boy eluded him and ran away screaming. Alan, regardless of injury to himself, hurriedly seized a blanket and wrapped it tightly round the boy, rolling liim on tho ground and extinguishing the flames. In doing so he himself was severely burned. Doctors said afterward that his prompt and courageous action had almost certainly saved his brother's life. Ilis knowledge of what tc do in an emergency and his presence oi mind were ascribed to his scout training. Several Other Awards. A number of other awards has also been approved by the Dominion Chief Scout. An honorary medal of merit has been awarded to Mr. Alexander Service, jun., of Auckland. He recently retired from the oflice of Metropolitan Commissioner at Auckland and from his position as a member of the Dominion executive. He has been associated with the scout movement for some 2o years. An honorary medal of merit lias been awarded also to Group Scoutmaster R. W. Moore, of Dunedin. He is at present Dunedin metropolitan secretary and in 1926 was awarded the certificate of merit for his work at the Dunedin jamboree. He is a group scoutmaster of the St. Clair Troop.

Scoutmaster A. W. Gordon, of Rotorua, has been awarded the certificate of merit. Scoutmaster of the St. Michael's Group, he has been actively associated with the movement sincc before the last war. He was a member of tho recent New Zealand contingent to the Sydney jamboree and trained the boys for their notable display. The Rev. F. C. Truman, scouter, who has b -en associated with the xnoven ent for more than 20 years, also has been awarded the certificate of merit.
