The Cardinal, a four-year-old son of Night Raid and Palestnna. won the Avondale Cup this afternoon in brilliant style from A,ram, who> d.st.ngu,shed herself last season when racing over hurdles. Tidewaiter and Lowenberg, two popular candidates, finished out of a place. '
u ji qU t !t VCry difficulty in taking the Kingsland J M j 3n ""P display of jumping, and Gladynev and Meadow scored narrow victories in the divisions of the Trial Plate. Foxmond who showed good form as a two-year-old in the early part of last season, was made favourite for the Henderson Handicap, and pulled her numerous supporters through. Race meetings were also held at Ashburton and by the Foxton Club at Awapuni.
