I-. .Andrews considered that clause 2 of the resolution was likely to create complications. Mailey suggested that a decision might lie deferred 'until after the proposed conference of local bodies to discuss the position with a view l> reaching uniformity of action. Last War's Expenditure. In the discussion which followed, the Mayor pointed out that the payment of Jialf-snlary to employees who enlisted in the hist war had involved an expenditure of X. 10..V18. It was advisable that the council should let its employees know that they would be looked after on the basis he proposed, if not by something better.
After several other councillors lia'l advocated immediate action in tlie matter, the resolution was carried unanimously.
