c , British United Press Paris correspondent reports that ngnting is proceeding on German territory on both sides of the Corridor. The Poles pushed a powerful force of infantry and cavalry across the western border due west of Gdynia. Berlin announces a report from Hitler's headquarters on the eastern front that the Fuehrer made a tour of 155 miles through former Polish territory. The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says it was officially announced that up to 9 a.m. not a single shot had been fired on the western front. There had been Cuxhaven ** cept the Briti " h raid on Wilhelmshaven and The Paris correspondent of the agency says it is understood the engagement :on the western front is preliminary manoeuvring of the advance French and German troops. An official communique did not indicate any real fighting up to 3.45 p.m. Paris time.
French troops are reported to be hammering the "Burgundy l*ate, which is the valley enclosed by the Vosges and the Alps northward of the conjunction of the Franco-German and Swiss frontiers. A further offensive is reported in the Moselle Valley. It is officially announced in Paris that French forees have contacted the German and penetrated German territory. It is reported in London that fighting has been in progress since dawn on Monday along the French frontier for 300 miles; also that the French have penetrated the Siegfried Line at several points.
It is officially claimed in Berlin, according to the Associated Press of Great Britain, that the British air raiders at Wilhelmshaven and Cuxhaven who were shot down now number 12 — half of the total. The damage to the ships is minimised. It is reported that the British air raid on Wilhelmshaven was more successful than was formerly reported. From another source it is stated that British warships have attacked German submarines - in several localities.
Radio Paris suddenly became silent at 3.45 a.m., and repeated efforts to make contact with Paris at 4.30 a.m. from [New York anq London were unsuccessful. Reuters state that the Belgians report explosions at Aachen.
