Demand For Stocks Centred On The " War Babies."

r 'ted Press Association. —Copyright. j (Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 5. The American public climbed aboard the stock market "express" and prices soared 5 to 25 points. Over 5,000,000 shares changed hands. Bonds, particularly United States Government issues, lost over a point. The demand for stocks centred on the "war babies"—steels, metals, sugars, chemicals, shipping, textiles, aeroplanes and motors. Steels, led by Bethlehem, gaining 17£ points. Commodities rose to the highest levels permitted in a single day's movement, and trading therafter practically ceased, due to lack of offerings. Chicago wheat futures for North American markets rose 5 cents, which is the allowable limit.
