CLAIMS IN BERLIN. No News Of German Losses Yet Permitted. 15 POLISH 'PLANES DOWNED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. Four Polish bombers, two fighters and nine other types were brought down at Lodz, according to Berlin reports. German forces, crossing the Vistula at Gurdziadz, penetrated 12 miles south-eastwards. No news of German casualties, or notification of relatives has been permitted yet.

The capture of . the entire Silesian industrial area of Poland is claimed.

A report from Zilina; Czechoslovakia, gave German troops have converged from a Slovak base upon Neumarkt, in Southern Cracow, from Levoca, J&blonka and Poprad, In Czechoslovakia. Cavalry and infantry, preceded by tanks, and armoured care took Slovak troops with them. The latter, however, halted at the border and formed defensive posts. There are now 400,000 troops under the Gerntan command in Slovakia. Of that number, 180,000, mainly Austrians, are fighting. There is a great scarcity of food and tobacco. A Berlin communique claims that the troops on the Sileaian front have captured Nove Sviecie and Wadowice, where fighting had been exceedingly heavy. It claims that they have taken 15,000 prisoners and reached the neighbourhood of Cracow. The communique also claims the capture of Mlawa, 10 miles due south of the East Prussian frontier. The communique states that an effective Polish counter-attack took place against the German mechanised units in southern Poland, near Bieradz.

The Germans left behind a large number of tanks and lorries. Many prisoners were taken.

A Polish war communique issued in Paris says a whole cavalry brigade entered East Prussia.
