APPEAL FOR FUNDS.
NEW ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL
APPOINTMENT POSTPONED.
The appointment of an organiser to undertake the appeal for funds for the proposed new Anglican Cathedral for Auckland has been postponed, according to a decision which was reached at a meeting of the cathedral committee of the diocese of Auckland yesterday.
There was a large attendance and the meeting lasted for two hours. At the conclusion Archbishop Averill said the meeting had been called before the outbreak of war for the purpose of considering the appointment of an organiser 1 of the appeal for.funds to augment the bequest of the late Miss Mina 'fait Hortou. In view of the present circumstances it had been decided to postpone [ the appointrrfent, and Dean Fancourt and Archdeacon Simkin would act in making arrangements for the prosecution of the appeal as soon as, in the judgment of the committee, the time was opportune. "The fund has been open for the past two years," added Archbishop Averill, "and * while the diocesan authorities would welcome any contributions -which may be made to it they are particularly anxious that no appeal for the cathedral should interfere with or militate against the .appeals which the committee feels must inevitably be made for purposes arising out of the present crisis."
