ODDITIES.
From Other Lands
Olher countries, other customs —but ihere are surely none so strange as those followed on the island of Marken, in Holland. The cottagers do not sleep in ordinary beds like Jve do, but in cupboard-like recesses let into the ivall.
Another thing that strikes a casual visitor as strange is the rvay the little boys' hair is allowed to grow until they are seven years old. It is sometimes difficult to tell which are boys and which are girls in Mar ken —because the former wear skirts and bonnets until their fifth birthday.
