VICTORIA LEAGUE.

LINK WITH RED CROSS.

A special meeting of the executive committee of the Victoria League was held yesterday and it was decided to undertake, during the present state of emergency, work similar to that of the league in tliQ Great War. A resolution was passed in which the league offered its services to the Red Cross Society, asking the society to give the league something definite to undertake. It is the desire of the league to work through the Red Cross Society while still retaining it* own individuality.

®Jt was stated at the meeting that members of the Young Contingent had been attending Red Cross classes in first aid for the past two months and that when the course was completed the girls would form a Victoria League detachment,; Many of the girls have also taken, a motor mechanic's course.

During 'the Great War the Victoria League formed its own Red Cross committee, as there was no branch of the Red Cross Society operating in Auckland at that time. The members made pyjamas and other articles of clothing for the men on active service, and also sent them general supplies, while many Auckland residents will remember the Red Cross shop run by the league in Shortland Street, The league joined the actual organisation of the Red Cross Society once its became established here.
