The alximlonnient of the "all-up"' p'rin ciple on the Empire air mail service was announced by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, to-day. The Minister added that the surcharge principle, had been reintroduced for correspondence for all countries, including British countries, which it was desired should be forwarded to destination bv air service.
The charge will become effective immediately, he stated, adding that in future corresjKUidence for England and other British countries prepaid at the ordinary penny-halfpenny rate would i all cases be sent to destination by surface means. If dispatch by air was desired to England or other countries served by the Empire air service postage at the rate of 1/0 each half-ounce must be paid.
The last all-up malls to reach England by air, said Mr. Jones, were those dispatched from Xew Zealand 011 August 9 and 11. Dispatches from the Dominion on August 29, 30 and 31 and September 1 were being forwarded by surface transport from Sydney and were expected to reach Loudon on October 7. Particular* of the likely time of arrival in London of intermediate dispatches could not bo furnished, but such mails would 110 doubt be delavcd en route.
The Empire service might continue to be used for correspondence for foreign countries which was prepaid at the surcharge rate of postage already fixed.
