LICENSING ACT BREACH.
FINES AT WHAMGAREI. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Alleged breaches of the Licensing Act resulted in charges being brought at the Wliangarei Magistrate's Court yesterday against the licensee and manageress of the Parua Bay Hotel. Cyril Roy Powell, the licensee, was charged with keeping open his premises after hours for the sale of liquor, with selling after hours, and with exposing liquor for sale after hours, while Zoe Beryl Ross, the manageress, was charged with supplying liquor.
"In cases where a sale is made by an employee, I must fix a fine so that licensees do not keep out of the way for the purpose of selling liquor after hours." said Mr. ti. N. Morris, S.M., in fining each £3 with 12/ costs on one charge. The other charges were withdrawn.
