NO SHORTAGE.
SUPPLIES OF GRGCERJES.
" AMPLE STOCKS FOR ALL." (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", this day. Yesterday saw a disposition by a small section of the Wellington public to buy groceries in excess of their requirements. The chairman of t?ie Wellington Grocers' Association, Mr. H. A. Fanselow. stated last night that there was no evidence of any shortage of grocery stocks and provided tlie public confined its purchases to ordinary requirements there would l>e little difficulty in providing ample supplies for all. It could not be too strongly emphasised that no shortage of grocery lines generally existed at present, but overbuying by the public could lead to such a position. The grocers of Wellington had invited the public to assist by buying from them only the ordinary weekly supply. This would avoid the complications that panicky buying would bring about.
At a meeting of representatives of the Wellington Grocers' Association la»it night the following motion, to be c;>nveye<d at once to the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, was carried unanimously: "That we pledge ourselves to give the fullest co-operation to the Xew Zealand Government in its tasl: of providing for the safety and wellbeing of the general public in the gra-e national emergency which now exi-~. Further, we are willing and ready to give all lieli> in the application of n;nregulations which the Government in:: y deem necessary for the equitable d:>"• - bution or conservation of food supplies."
