STILL OUT.
HUNTLY MINERS.
MASS MEETING TO-DAY.
LARGE NUMBER AFFECTED.
The Hnntly miners who ceased -work yesterday, apparently as the result of the men at the Glen Afton and McDonald mines going oil strike, were idle
again to-day.
A mass general meeting of all the miners in the Waikato was arranged to he held in the Huntly Town Hall this afternoon, but, at the time of going to press, no statement had been made. The meeting was called by Mr. T. Hall, secretary of the Northern Miners' Union, and its object was to consider the situation.
The mines affected, in addition to the Glen Afton and McDonald, are the Wilton (Glen Massey), Renown, Rotowaro and Pukemiro. Approximately 1000 men are employed at these mines.
The original trouble arose from a dispute between the union and employers, following the dismissal of an aged employee of the Glen Afton collieries. The Glen Afton and Mc-Donald men stopped work three weeks ago, when the man was dismissed, but they decided to leave the negotiations to the union executive, and came bac-k to work after two days' idleness. They stopped work again yesterday morning, and the.r example was followed by men from the other mines, after stop-work meetings had been held. Mr. Hall said he did not know whr the men at these other 7iiines had Stopped work. Xotliing had arisen to prevent them from going back to their duties.
