VARIED FARE.
SPECIAL FEATURES. " N.Z. WOMAN'S WEEKLY." NATIONAL NUTRITION. More variety than ever is offered in this week's issue of that popular New Zealand home journal, the "New Zealand Woman's Weekly." To begin with there are two complete stories and a ! number of special features. Among the features are two pages of photographs of suburban homes, photographs and story of a church run entirely by children, hints how to make ornaments from fishbones, and suggestions on teaching a maid to cook. On the editorial page there is an article on the formation of a national nutrition committee, and in this connection readers of the magazine are asked to submit their opinions. For such letters published the usual rates will be paid. Few, perhaps, realise that New Zealand can take some credit for starting the world-wide interest in matters of nutrition, for one of the pioneers in this iield was the late Dr. Ada Patterson. Yet, strange to say. New Zealand is one of the few countries that has not adopted the recommendation cf the conference of national nutrition committees. The garden lover will find in the issue a page devoted to the selection of suitable ornamental hedges. Another article tells of the history of spectacles, while there are further suggestions in the "Lady, Be Lovely" or beauty series. On the film pajjes is the story of Merle Oberon's marriage to Alexander Korda, and an interview with the famous producer. Adolph Zukor, and his wife, who passed through Auckland last week. In the free pattern section there are eight attractive designs from which readers can choose. Directions are given for the knitting of a spring jumper trimmed with pearls. The housewife will be interested in a page of recipes for the serving of prunes in ways that will be relished.
