FLOWERS
(By Nancy Ryalls, 35, Portland Road, Remuera.) In spring the air is mellowed, Bv a thousand spicy smells, And the banks are bright with sunshine Of a hundred daffodils. They ring out their message, Of brightness and cheer, I think they're the happiest Flowers of the year. The rose is a flower, fair and bright, Her beauty like Venus, the starqueen of night, Her velvety petals of lustrous hue, Gleam with a sprinkling of crystal dew. Gorse that's the bane of a farmer's life, Has beauty that's hard to compare, When its rich, golden harvest of perfumed blooms, Is spread on the sweet country air..
