A Memory Of The "Silent Eleventh"
This is a photo of a few of the 11th Reinforcements, otherwise by us as the "Silent Eleventh." It Was taken on the summit of the Rimutakas on our march from Fealherston Camp to Trentham, about 23$ years ago, mites 26/16/2. I can only remember a fen> of the Diggers' names and, as far as I kpow, the ones I mention are still on deck. Perhaps some of the Diggers in this photo will remember the rest of these hoys' names. s ™«m*r crouched down on the right, in the light singlet and pannikin in the right hand, is Joe Vincent, of unify, and right behind him and standing up, with P<»»itkin in his right hand, is Bob Morrison, of ihiti /mil * ,*'i to !"• on his right, with the of Bennett anA 1 'i* j C " a digger by the name •/ Bennett, and behind htm and a little to his right
is Tom Storey. I believe old Tom went West. The Digger lying down in the front is Bill Twining, who is still going strong, and right behind him,' with his hand pointing toward the right of the picture, is Archie Steele, still on deck, and on his right, but fust back a bit crouched down is Bill Holdem, of Hamilton, still to the fore. ' If there are any of these Diggers in the photo who would like a print of it, and if they get in touch with me / will endeavour to see that they are supplied. / would like very much to hear from some of these boys if they are still on deck. Bill Skinner, who, I now believe, is living somewhere in Auckland, would remember most of these boys, but he is not in this group. We are some of the Dinks of the 4th Battalion,
