Keen Contests Are Expected At Auckland Trots

TTie attention of Auckland 1 <>1 !• wtis of horse racing will be focused to-mor-row on the Trotting Club's meeting at Alexandra Park. This will mark the opening of the 1930-40 season in the province, and the keen interest usually manifested in the sport will be accentuated by the first appearace here of a number of South Island performer*. Tlice include Isabel Derby, l!cpi sc. Ladv Vasclyne. Monty Chime-'. IJi-wel-lvn's Pet. Fortex and the Au-t i-ili.i n Wilbur's Heiress. Repose and WilbnrV Heiress are novice perloriner-.. and Isabel llerby l as pruved her>cll .1 go. 1 1 racehorse. The fields are well balanced, and m v that the committee has divided the Mount Eden Handicap into two divisions —each worth £-00 —the programme has been extended to eight races, with t le totalisator open on every event. Betting will be on the win and plate nystein, and although speculators will bo at a disadvantage in that the form of some of tlie candidates is unknown, it is a fact, that several of them showed to such advantage in races towards the end of Inst season that they will command no small amount of attention. The Opening Event. Tn the first race on the carl, the Introductory Handicap. Sir Tony, one of the limit markers, came into the limelight by running third to f!av Moko and Frontier Boy ntjEpsom last April, an.l, later, by finishing second to Elliot vale on the same course. He was inexperienced then, and would only need to run up to the, form shown at. 'his last start to have an undeniable chance. Ilii Ihi is another novice with a placed performance to his credit, but he failed to handle the going on the only occasion that he was seen 011 a heavy track - and that's how it will be to-morrow. Glen Bingen showed'promise at Claudelands and Cambridge, and Wiri Bingen lia* been working well, wdiile Elliotvale and Frontier Boy are 011 the upgrade. There arc several unknown quantities in the field, but it is probable that investors will prefer SIR TONY FRONTIER BOY ELLIOT VALE. A Divided Race. Both divisions of the Mount Eden Handicap are "open." on paper, although Belfast Jack created such a favourable impression by the manner in which he paced not far behind the placed horses in the second division of the Matigerc Handicap at the park in May last that he might start a hot favourite. He is a fit horse, but it remains to be seen how he will handle the very heavy going. Neon Oro showed up at the same meeting. and her mile and a quarter in 2.51 on the cinders on Tuesday entitles lier to respect. Silver Plane, a four-year-old filly by Peter Bingen from Hal Lady, has been working attractively with Kewpie's King, and might easily effect a surprise, while Gipsy Light, Bingen's Best and Sweet Aloes are progressing. Favourites may be BELFAST JACK SILVER PLANE BINGEN'S BEST. The Second Division. Clay Pot is sure to be in demand for the second division because of her good second to Double Peter in one of the heats of the Mangere Handicap in May. It is problematical if the going will suit her. Bronze King, Wishful and Young Parry have performed nicely in their work, while Wilbur's \Heiress looks as if she has not been allowed to idle. Winhisway has placed performances on dry tracks to his credit, the last occasion when he finished second to Rsy Ola at Alexandra Park in February. Narbada is another with minor placings, and his two seconds at Wanganui on March 25 last are worthy of note. In a mile and a quarter he ran 2.53 2-5, and he recorded 3.20 2-5 from 3.43 to he second to Diltest. Those in the call in the ran to the judge may be CLAY POT WISHFUL-YOUNG PARRY bracket 'WINHISWAY. ' Principal Event.

Red Fhsah has been the most popular candidate for the big race ever since the handicaps appeared, and there is no - doubt that he -will start favourite, even though Kenworthy defeated him on exactly tha same terms in the C. F. Mark Memorial last May. The reason for this may lie in the fact that Kenworthy's training has been interfered with, whereas Red Flush lias come through a solid preparation and is probably better now than for a long time past. Bayard, on the limit, has a race , record of 3.18 2-5 for the distance, and he will be bracketed with Kewpie's Triumph, who has been let up two ceconds in the reassessments and is very lit. Compass, a mud larker, won the Massey Memorial at this meeting last year and is at home in heavy ground, while Kewpie's King and Sandusky are both good class pacers when at the top of their form, which can"' hardly be claimed for them at the moment. Although Isabel Derby has not won since she scored in the Timaru Cup in March, 1038, she ha« been putting plenty of dash into her work and should give • good account of herself. The event ' may resolve itself into a tussle between , ISABEL DERBY. RED FLUSH BAYARD-KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH bracket. Grey Lynn Handicap.

The range of hotting on the result of the Grey Lynn Handicap will not be wide, despite the fact tliat there are . eleven acceptors. .Josedale Grattan scored so decisively at his ln«t start that he is sure trr lie solidly backed, ; While Tsnna justifies support because of ' ,W" Rood form in winning the first " i* V On Manuknu Hnndicnp in Amy win, one of the limit rnnrkers, >11 consistent, and Grand Wm«, Double Peter-and Kewpre's Queen ?-i 'J, J* ' months ago. Red Flush, Josedale Grattan, And Francisco May Be Prominent

Chance for Gay Moko.

It is almost certain that speculators will wager freely 011 Gay Moko, Within, All Bingen arid Llanvahon in ciic F.oval Onk Handicap, a race for unhoppled trotters over n mile and a half. Gay •Moko won twice in pood style in 193830 and has been doing all that has been n-ked of her on the tracks, while the A\ rack mare Within, a member of .1. I I . Paul s team at Mangere, scored s » wll in tlic Members' Handicap at Alexandra I'ark at the May fixture that *lie .-liould lie extremely hard to b.'at. I lie I ~t lias not yet been seen of it hin. All Bingen. a 11'ea(I\* a winner on the Epsom track, is an improved tiotter and should make things interesting, while Manvaboii was giving Qiis best displays towards the end of last term. He might need a race or two. Of the others. Dick Kedmond would l>e capable of effecting a surprise—if he would put his best foot forward. The favoured division should be GAY MOKO ALL B TNG EN WTTHTN. Very Open Race. The Orakei Handicap, one mile and a quarter, 2.">7 class > appears to be the most open event on the card. Ladv Vasclyne. Fortex and Monty Chimes, ail winners in the South Island, are newcomers to Auckland, and it is hard to say how the heavy track will suit them. I'ortex has not won for over two seasons, but has been sprinting well in company with Red Flush and Tinker. Contender, who was successful in both the Northern Trotting Stakes and Northern Derby, is on 12 yards, but he may be held safe by Kete Kura. a solid six-vear-old Truman Direct pacer. Kete Kura won -at F.psom a few months ago, and at his last start, on May 31. finished third to Tangaroa and Axminster. He is now meeting Tangaroa on three seconds bettci tei ms. Hillcrest scored so impressively from 30 yards behind in the Hobson Handicap at the same fixture that he must lie given a chance off 24 yards in this class. Popular fancies will probably be FORTEX iKETE KURA LADY VASC'LYNE. The Massey Memorial. The final event of the day, the Massey Memorial, has attracted a field of 15, including two brackets of three liorsee. Francisco, on the limit, finished a good second to Bold Venture three months ago, and has improved since then. She has been working very attractively and will be extremely hard to head 'off if she leaves the barrier promptly. Vanora was a good performer over the distance 15 months ago, and now shows signs of returning to hi* best form, while Three Bells, on 48 yards, must be held in esteem. He is bracketed with Shrewdy and Loyal Direct. Tangatu is on a nice mark and is partial to a soft track, while Munga Tangi. judged bv his recent track work, might create a surprise. Those fancied should include FRANCTSCO VANORA THREE BELLS-SHREWDY-LOYAL DIRECT LOYAL DIRECT bracket.
