VALUELESS CHEQUE.

LABOURER IMPRISONED.

Charged with obtaining goods to the value of 9/ and £4 11/ in money by means of a valueless cheque, Robert Hume, labourer, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said the accused took three blank cheque fcrms from the book of a man with whom he was sharing a bach at Matamiica. Accused filled in one form for £5, made payable to himself, and signed it "T. M. Ryan." He later purchased 9/ worth of goods at a store, tendered the cheque in payment and received £4 11/ change. Accused, who had nothing to say, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
