Sir Apirana and Lady Ngata arrived from Wellington by the Limited express this morning.

Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union, is on a visit to Hamilton.

Captain H. M. Barnes, officer in charge of the Devonport naval base, has returned from Wellington.

Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, the director of meteorological services, has, for a period of two years, been appointed a member of the Carter Observatory Board.

Dr. M. H. Watt, Director-General of Health, and Dr. T. R. Ritchie, Director of Public Hygiene, left for Wellington by the early express this afternoon.

Mr. W. H. Xagle, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, and Mr. C. R. Cribble, secretary, returned from Wellington this morning by the Limited express.

Mr. J. G. Gilbert-Lodge, of Loudon, arrived yesterday by the Rangitane on a business visit to the Dominion. He will leave on Monday for Wellington by the same ship.

Mr. Maurice Bleakly, assistant lecturer in zoology at Canterbury Uuivarsity College, has been granted two yeara.' leave of absence to enable him to go to London University College and engage in embryological research.

The Rev. Father H. J. Hayward, of St. Columban's Missionary Society, arrived yesterday at Auckland by the Rangitane. He is a nephew of the Hon. W. Hayward, M.L.C., of Christchurch, and he will spend a holiday in New Zealand prior to joining the missionary staff of his society in Korea.
