NO BACK NUMBER.
BONNY AZURE'S RETURN. By beating all but Marsceres in the National Plate Handica.p at the August carnival at Addington, Bonny Azure «ho\vecl tliaf «lie is far from beir\g a back number. It was a two-mile race, and she-w-as prominent all the way.
When she made her 1 debut a« a three-year-old in the Great Northern Derby Stakes in 1934, in which she ran third, a Stood career was predicted for Bonny Azure.
In the season she put a string of successes together, and the character of her achievements made a New Zealand Trotting Cup well within her capabilities. During that ycr she competed in thirteen races for nine v. iihj, two seconds and one third, and earned £125.5 in stakes.
In 1936-37 she started in 25 races for six wins, two seconds and three thirds, her stake earnings for that period amounting to £1590. Then came a slump, for in 1937-38 a third and £50 for winning a lap prize at the inter-Dominion championship was the best she could do in eight starts.
Up to that time. she was trained by F. J. Smith at Takanini, and later went in L. O. Thomas' stable, under whose care she has registered some good performances.
So far Bonny Azure has won £3615 in stakes, and, being only eight yeard old, there w no reason- why she should not add to her list of winnings. She was bred by Mr. L. J. Brake, of Whangarei, and is by Blue Mountain King from Bonnie Bingen. who is by Great Bingen from Muriel Dillon, by Harold Dillon from the American mare Muriel Madison, who was imported by Mr. E. X. Le Lievre. Muriel Dillon is also the dam of Dilworth, 4.19 4-5.
