VETERINARY SURGEONS.

TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT NEED.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. Support for any scheme that would ensure for Te Awamutu district the services of a fully-qualified veterinary surgeon was forthcoming at to-day's annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Co-opera-tive Dairy Company. Limited, but the secretary-manager, Mr. A. J. Sinclair, stated the difficulty was to obtain a competent man. He explained that i there was a real scarcity of qualified !veterinarians at present, those available ! being either in private practice or j attracted by the better conditions in Australia. However the Dairy Board 'was investigating the matter, and perhaps a scheme would be involved by which highly-qualified veterinary officers could be made available for each of the important dairying districts.

Mr. G. O. Jourdain was unanimously reappointed shareholders' auditor, and Messrs. George Spinlev and Hamilton Allen were formally declared re-elected to the directorate unopposed for a further term of three years.

With only two dissentient voices, the following resolution was carried on the motion of the chairman of directors, Mr. E. H. Rhodes: "That this meeting of shareholders urges the Government to give effect to the report of the Guaranteed Prices Advisory Committee of 1938 by paying for the 1939-40 season the prices recommended therein, together with an additional sum to cover all ascertainable increases in costs which have taken place, since the report was presented."

Compulsory unionism for dairv farmers was advocated, but there was no support forthcoming. „
