THREE CENTURIES.

WARWICKSHIRE XI.

YORKSHIRE FORGES AHEAD.

WEST INDIES BADLY BEATEN

United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 15. In the cricket rtiatch at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire beat West Indies by seven wickets. The county, requiring 231 to win, lost only three men getting the rune. Emmett (84) and Neale (70) were top scorers.

In contrast to many recent series all but one match on the programme, which commenced last Saturday, was won outright.

In addition to the centuries of A. Fagg and L. Hutton reported at the end of the second day's play, three-figure tallies were registered by R. E. S. Wyatt (151), W. A. Hill (138), and A. J. Croom (110 not out, second innings) for Warwickshire; E. Paynter (154), for Lancashire; F. G. H. Chalk (124), and B. H. Valentine (104), for Kent; and John Langridge (141), for Sussex.

Like Fagg, Paynter had been dropped for the third Test against West Indies at the Oval, n£xt Saturday.

The beet bowling double was by M. S. Nichols (Essex), six for 18 and five for 52. W. E. Phillipson (Lancashire), who toured New Zealand with Sir Julien Cahn's team, took seven for 55 in Notts' second innings at Trent Bridge. Results of county games:— Warwickshire (after declaring at 371 for four) beat Xoi thants, at Northampton, by 14 runs on the first innings. Merritt, the ex-New Zealander, scored 53 not out, for the losers.

Lancashire beat Notts, at Trent Bridge, by six wickets.

Kent beat Sussex, at Hastings, by 108 runs.

Yorkshire beat Worcestershire, at Brad ford, by 89 runs.

Surrey beat Middlesex, at the Oval, by eight wickets.

Essex beat Derbyshire, at Southend, by an innings and 31 runs.

Hampshire beat Leicestershire, at Southampton, by 177 runs.

Glamorgan beat Somerset, in A. W. Wellard'e benefit match at Weston-super-Mare, by two wickets.

Yorkshire has now a comfortable lead in the championship. Since the table was published a fortnight ago, with Yorkshire (average 8.63 points per game), Middlesex (8.53) and Gloucestershire (8.00) in the first three places, the Yorkshire eleven has had outright victories over Glamorgan, Lancashire, Leicestershire and Worcestershire. The other two fared thus: —

Middlesex had the bye in the series ending August 4; there was no decision at all in the next game with Sussex owing to rain. Kent was beaten outright, but the Lord's side lost to Surrey this week.

Gloucestershire secured first inning's points only over Derbyshire; beat Somerset outright; lost by six wickets to Glamorgan, and this week's game did not count, of course, for the championship.
