Urgency was taken for the Budget debate yesterday, not with the intention of late sittings, explained the actingLeader of the House, Mr FYaser, but in order to allow any speech commenced before the ordinary time of the adjournment at 10.30 p.m. to be concluded before the rising of the House. Indications are that the debate will be brought to a conclusion this week.

Discussion yesterday, generally speak ing, was colourless, members evidentlv having no new material to bring forward

Mr. F. W. Doidge 'Nationalist, Tauranga) again criticised the Government's financial policy and concluded by making a plea for the man on the land, Haying the Budget's only thought for the farmer was that he should work ha-rd and produce more.

Mr. R. McKeen (Government, Wellington S(uth) made his second attack this session on British foreign policy and said that Britain had been responsible for some double-crossing in regard to the Far East position.

Mr. VV. S. Goosnian (Nationalist, VVaikato) made a strong attack on the lavish distribution of unemployment funds, suggesting that many relief works were an excuse for the payment of wages. The debate will be continued to-day.
