HARBOUR BRIDGE.
OTAHTTHU'S ATTITUDE.
! There was further consideration of the proposed Waitcmata harbour bridge by the Otahuhu Borough Council at its meeting last evening. Mr. A. Murdoch, who moved at the previous meeting that consideration be deferred pending more information on the matter, took the opportunity of voicing his support of the project, with the provision that there he a fixed toll for those using the bridge instead of a charge on contiguous local bodies. He considered the matter of national importance, and the toll should be sufficient to cover the whole cost. Objection to the principle of the toll was made by Mr. .Jackson, who advocated Hie work being done as a national highway. The Mayor. Mr. C. R. Petri*-. M.P., considered the matter urgent and necessary, but having in mind the position in which Ofnliului was placed in regard to the construction of the Mniigere bridge some years ago, which involved the borough in a large expenditure, and which has not yet been liquidated, advised caution. He was of the opinion that to give support to the scheme yiight mean Otahuh>* beiutr »>ted to kelp defray the cost.
