MINERS LOSE JOBS.
QUESTION OF EMPLOYMENT
PROBLEM AT WAIHI.
(By Telegraph— Own Correspondent.) WAIHI. this day. In ennneetion with the shortening of hands in the Maltha Mine. Mr. W. Bice, -ecretary (if the Miner*' Union, discussed the position with the Di-triet Registrar i'f Social Security. Mr. Xeilsen. vesterday, and later a conference \va!s held between the Mayor. Mr. \V. M. Wallnutt, and the Town ( lerk. Mr. E. C. Westl>uiy. and Mr. Bice, with a view to ha\injr the men employed under Scheme 13 by the Waihi Borough Council. When in Wellington thus week Mr. Bice will discuss the various points arising in connection with the position with the Commissioner of Employment. It i.s understood that, should the management require the men later on in connection with the mine development the workers put off last week will be jjhen the first chance,of employment. In the meantime the union advises that men from other districts seeking work should not come to Waihi.
