JUDGING AT RACES.

NEW BOX AT ELLERSLIE.

PHOTOGRAPHING FINISHES,

COST TOO GREAT AT PRESENT

The present position of the judge's box at Ellerslie was mentioned by Mr. J. P. Kalaugher at the annual meeting of the Auckland Racing Club yesterday afternoon. Mr. Kalaujther pointed out that instead of the box beiny: near the rails as at present it should be much further back. At Kit-carton and Trentham it was in tlie stand. He also advocated the introduction of the camera for taking close finishes. The president. Mr. O. Nicholson, said that the. club wan Boinjt to erect a new judge's box and it would be further back than the present one. The work would be undertaken after the Pakuranga meeting to be held next Saturday and it was hoped it would give satisfaction. "Instead of hoisting the numbers through the roof of the box as at present." he added, "they will be communicated straight to the number boards so that everyone should see them, except the-bookmakers, who are up by the Ladies' Mile." Regarding the taking of photographs o-f finishes the committee had al«o considered this matter, but at the present time were not prepared to «o to the expense. It would cost a considerable amount to do it properly, for there was the housing of the people who would operate the camera. However, it would receive further consideration.
