WANGANUI HORSES.

SUBMISSION DOING WELL.

WILL CONTEST GUINEAS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

WANGANUI. Monday.

The WangJinui Racing Club's spring meeting is now only a month off and training operations are becoming interesting, several of the horses being speeded up a bit by their trainers. Mr. L. G. Paul hopes to (have Amigo back in work this week, as the gelding is now all right again. The enforced spell was taken advantage of to physic Aniigo, and if appearance* go for nnyt>hin« his owner-trainer should be able to get the Beau Pere gelding in good ehape for the meeting next month. W. Rn.vner has hi* team well forward, and Entail. Submission, Homily, Dynasty and Portal should all bs in good order for the Wuiiganiii meeting. Homily appears to have benefited greatjy by her recent spell, during which she was hacked about, and she has filled out and muscled up splendidly. Entail came in looking more «olid than ever, and this , pair ehould ehow a return to fcheir best form enrly in the season. Mr. G. M. Currie has Portal. Dynasty and Submission cwtnx 1 in the Wangamii Guineas, but will probably rely on Submission. This filly has , done all that hae been required of her in pleasing style, and what beats her in the classic event should win. Although the two-year-olds Curtail (Posterity—Curtain) and Ringcratft (Ringmaster —Midinette—are unlikely to run in the Debutante Stakes ae they have not been in work very long, they are making good progrem. They have not been asked >to do anything fast yet, but the way they move in their pace work ie very encouraging. Curtail has a typical Pos-

terity lonr? stride, but moves smoothly. Kingcraft puts pienty of dash into his work and hae an easy style. He should come to hand quickly. A three-year-old ri.iy by Siegfried out of a Hunting Song mare has joined K. Chote's team. She is a neatly-built filly and looks like one -'"it should prove useful. Desert Column and Sam's Choice, m the same .-'able, are being kept in steady work in view of the Wanganui meeting. The spell which Enrotas had appears to have done hii i i lot of good, a* he is» m great heart and ha« put on a fair amount of condition. The Pantheon gelding has so far not raced up to his early promise, but he may yet make good. Golden Pam is in work awiin after a spell of two months. This mare has heaps ot pace, and if she trains on all right she might yet recompense her ownertrainer, Mr. J. Brooke, for his care and perseverance. A newcomer to the locnl tracks is Golden Hawk a five-year-old gelding by Lord Quex He has been secure,! on lease by Mr. A. W. Thacker, and looks a solid enstomer that should ipay his way. Wangnnui track watchers were not surprised to hear that Lowenberg had run a (treat race in the Islington Handicap at Kiccarton. Although the seven-year-old so " of Lord Quex did not look too sound when he came in a couple of months ago, he made remarkable progress under W. H. Dwyer s care, and if that very capable t l aln , e l can keep the gelding going he should win some good money for the Messrs. O'Xeill Bros, in the near future. D. Marks came in from Fordell on Saturday morning with Smoke Screen, Russian Ballet, Scandal and' Red Cat. All four look healthy and bright and promise to be well forward for the Wanganui meeting. Smoke Screen >trode out well in covering a mile, the last three furlongs at good three-quarter pace. The Limond gelding looks as if he will take a lot of beating in his early epring engagements if he continues , on the right way.
