SURVEY SHIP.
LEAVES ON FRIDAY.
ENDEAVOUR FOR ENGLAND.
SUCCESSOR NOT KNOWN
According to the latest decision, the Admiralty survey ship Endeavour, under the command of Captain A. O. X. Wyatt, will now leave for England next .Friday, instead of on August 28, as was previously announced. Xo information is available as to when the marine survey of the Dominion's coastline, begun over two years ago, will be resumed, for it is not known when a ship to replace the Endeavour will be available. Some delay, however, is thought to be inevitable since the Endeavour was due to take up active surveying again in October, and it is not thought that another vessel will be in Xew Zealand waters by that time. Officers on the Endeavour were' not able to substantiate the rumour that the survey ship Scott, which has been working in Scottish waters, would be taking the Endeavour's place. By Friday officers will almost have completed the task of drawing fair charts of the survey so far made. Those for the first eections were completed previously, and when all are finished, the work will have covered 4289 square milea of sorndings and 662 miles of coastline charting. Eventually these finished charts will be sent out to the Marine Department, after which they will be made available to mariners using the coast.
