LADIES' MATCHES.

1 UNIVERSITY BLUES LOSE THEIR CHANCE. Despite inclement weather matches under the control of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association were played on Saturday. A low standard of hockey was produced generally, the grounds being in many parts waterlogged. An Interesting stage has now been reached in the senior championship competition, three teams. Mount Eden, Wesley and Training College, being in the running for final honours.

University Blues lost its chance when it played a drawn game with Technical Past Students. Taking the offensive early University initiated some clever movements from which two goals were scored in succession by Miss J. Bilkey. A clear victory seemed to be in the offing, but Technical rallied well and kept up a relentless attack. The play was even, but marred by obstructive tactics. Drawing the defence successfully, Mrs. J. Keiman made a splendid breakaway to score for Technical. Penetrating the University halfline. the attack led by Miss .1. Scoullar moved in unison, which resulted in Technieal's second goal. The game developed into a scramble as each side sought to dominate. University f orced the pace keeping Technical defending in the circle, and but for bustling methods employed by the opposition, would probably have scored. The game ended with no further score, a draw.

University Whites suffered a further defeat at the hands of Wesley, who have this season bad least goals scored against tliem. The students made every effort to score. but Wesley's superior defence repelled successfully each attack. Wesley displayed better form and the forwards showed a keen ability-to combination. Mrs. Nicholas was outstanding, her speed giving her every advantage over the slow University defence. Good support was given by Mrs. I.owe at centre forward, while Miss N. Clegg played soundly in the halves. The Misses Camplin were responsible for a (.isplay of anticipation and good clearances in the full-back positions for Wesley. University Whites were conspicuously weak at defensive play, but Miss K. Bilkey, Miss I'. Kobertson and Miss A. Morrison showed promise in the forwards, combining well to pierce the defence on several occasions.

Training College enhanced its position by a decisive win over Kiwi. A much improved team College has played consistently throughout the season. Its next match, which will decide its position on the championship ladder, will be played against Wesley, a keen and close contest (wing anticipated. The results were :— SKNIOR.
