NOTES AND COMMENTS.

NOVICE SHOWS SPEED. The lea Tray — Kildcer three-year-old in F. Gilchrist s stable has been showing promising speed in his work at headquarters and is a likely-looking sort. This novice comes from a proved family, being a descendant of Vivandiere, a daughter of Musket. PARTIAL TO SOFT GOING. The stable mates Bisquit and Beverley are down to compete at the Pakuranga meeting, and their form at that meeting should 'be a useful guide concerning their future prospects. Beverley has made good headway during the winter months but may need a race or two before he is seen at his best. Both these hacks are partial to soft going and that will be an advantage to thein in their pending engagements. FORM WAS CONSISTENT. Now that the spring meetings are approaching Silver Stick is being sent along a bit faster and is doing everything required of him in a capable manner. As a two-year-old last season Silver Stick's tonn was consistent, resulting in one win and five minor placings in nine starts. His third in the Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie last Easter was a fine effort, while he also ran Beaurepaire to a neck over six furlongs with 31b the worst of the weights. As a three-year-old this season Silver Stick is likely to reach the best class. POPULAR SPRING DOUBLE. Horses prominent in the discussions of the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps have been entered almost without exception for the C'ampbelltown and Spring Handicaps to be run at Warwick Farm on August 26 (says an Australian writer). St. Constant, who is rated higlilv in both the big races at Randwick. is in both the \V arwick I*arm events. Te Hero. Earlv Birl, Malagigi, Geebung, Adios, Tel Asur and Vergure are interesting entrants for the six-furlong event at the Farm. Tel Asur will be tested for the value of his two-year-old form last season, and Vergure for the real standard of his ability. Peerless is the "-sole entrant of the Dominion contingent, and she is engaged only in the Spring Handicap. Buzalong and Mosaic are the proved Cup horses in this entry for testing improvers like Buzzal and Gold Pan. Recent Epsom-Metropolitan betting includes Te Hero and Feminist to win £25.000, and Te Hero and Cooranga £20.000. The stable mates Te Hero and L'Aiglon ha\*e also been coupled to win £10,000. Both are trained by D. Lewis. HAD THE DESIRED EFFECT. During the last week or two Land Girl has been doing her work with blinkers on, and her manners have improved noticeably. When in the mood this mare can muster up a lot of speed, and if blinkers are used on her on race day she will probably run more generously.
