JOSEF STALIN, Russian dictator, son of a peasant, was born in Georgia in 1879. Became a revolutionary propagandist, was arrested and exiled to Siberia in I 903; subsequently he escaped and was exiled again. He was one of the leaders of the plot to .overthrow Kerensky in 1917.
