BUOYANT REVENUE.

ACTIVITIES AT THE ZOO.

Revenue had continued buoyant despite adverse condition*, stated the curator, Lieutenant-Colonel R. R. Sawyer, reporting to the City Council last night on the activities of the Zoological Park for the year ended Starch 31. He said that the average annual deficit had been reduced to £3101 for the past three years, of which £2"»0(I represented the cost of maintaining the park, plantations, garden* and nursery. For the first time in the history of the zoo, a natural increase had overtaken the mortality among the mammals. A problem in accommodation had immediately arisen, and at the present time every cage• and enclosure was fully occupied. With the completion of the current year's small programme, few further demands for capital expenditure would bo necessary. With the delivery of stock now on order to complete establishment, it was hoped the greater part of the cost of further purchases •would bo derived from the sale of young stock.
