RECENT ACTIVITIES OF CLUBS AW SOCIETIES.

Takapuna R.S.A.—A social and dance was held by the Takapuna branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association in the clubroonis recently. Items were given by Mies Ogilvie, Miss Bayliss, Mr. Burn, Mr. McFagan and Mr. Brown.

New Women's Club.—An amusing play and a programme of song and music were presented at a recent meeting of the New Women's Club. Those taking part inthe one-act play were Mesdames Goodridge, Tugby, Allan, Gladding, Farquharson and Wallace. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. W. K. Tugby and Mrs. F. G. Biehop.

Daisy Chain Club. —Mrs. Lord presided at the weekly meeting of the Daisy Chain Club. The card afternoon was organised by the secretary, Mrs. Barfoot, the winners being Mrs. Mildon, Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Barfoot. The hosteeees were Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. Crooks.

Penwomen's Club.—An address on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was given by Captain Vernon Rice at a recent meeting of the Penwcmen's Club. Mrs. J. Innea, a vice-president, presided and vocal solos were given by Mise Joan Moodv.

Informal Music Club.—A programme of vocal and instrumental music was presented at a meeting of the Informal Music Club held in the Overseas League rooms. The president, Mr. Leo Whittaker, presided and the guest artist of the evening was Miss Ina Bosworth.

Comrades Club.—A social evening was held by the members of the Comrades Club in the Fountain of Friendship Hall recently. Mrs. Sutherland supplied the dance music and items were given by Mrs. Shepherd and Mies Clarke. Mr. Rigney was the master of ceremonies.

Radiant Health.—An enjoyable members' night was held at the clubroom in the Unity Hall. Mrs. B. Webb presided. Mrs. A. Warder demonstrated the making of wholemeal bread made from home-milled wheat. A debate, "Is Youth Decadent," created much interest and resulted in the verdict that youth to-day is not decadent.

Scandinavian Club.—The club met at the Rest-a-While Club room and celebrated St. Olav's Day, which until recently ranked only second to St. Han's, or Midsummer, Day in importance as a day of festivity. The president, Miss E. Eriksson, gave a brief outline of the history and culture of the Scandinavian countries, urging the members to hold fast to the beet of their traditions and as far as possible to build on to that which leads to progress. Mrs. R. Tennant spoke on the origin of the word Scandinavia and the Vikings, who fought in and ruled over many provinces and foreign countries aobut 1000 years ago. The singing of national songs was an outstanding item and was greatly enjoyed by all the 80 guests. Miss M. Pedersen, of Te Awamutu, sang several songe by Greig and Kjerulf, Miss Freda Carlson playing the accompaniment. Hostesses were Mrs. R. P. Carlson and Mrs. F. Williams, Mr. Anderson and Mr. Madsen.
