IMPORT BAN OUTCOME.
EFFECT BEING REVEALED
The effect of thn import restrictions policy of the Oovertiment is just beginning to be felt by member.-: of the Auckland Storeineii's, Packers and Warehousemen's Union, according to the secretary of the Huron, Mr. W. Miller.
He stated this morning that it was reported at the annual mooting that several members of the union, warehousemen and storemen, had been affected by firms reducing their staffs as a result of the falling off of work owing to certain goods not being imported or imported to a lesser extent than formerly. Up to date, added Mr. Miller, about twenty men had been dismissed, and it was considered that the effect of import restrictions was just beginning to be felt. Very few of the men who had lost their positions had been absorbed in other emulovirieiit.
At the annual meeting of the union officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. T. FT. Fraser; vice-president. Mr. D. J. Melntyre; secretary and treasurer. Mr. W. Miller; management committee. Messrs. W. fJ. Kudkins, \V. Chaplin. J. S. Nicholson, D. Laird, K. L. Laird, W. Mudford and A. Lomas.
