The |ast-minute withdrawal of Mr. G. t Grey Campbell from the position of co- ! s manager of llie New Zealand team was . referred to at a meeting of the Auckland r Kugby League Board of Control last eveni in*r. members taking the opportunity to i express sympathy with Mr. Campbell and regret at the situation in which he had found himself owing to ill-health. Mr. J. W. Probeit said membere felt j deeply the decision of their chairman. It was, however, the determination of a man P of character who had courageously faced 0 an unenviable situation and had sacrificed the chance of a life-time. Everybody in ' the name regretted that ill-health had . intervened to deprive Mr. Campbell of . the trip. Mr. J. Rukutai said Mr. Campbell's defection was a lose to the tour and regret would be felt throughout New Zealand. Mr. Campbell, in returning thanks, said / he wanted it to be tleaily understood that the decision not to go to Knglnnd with the team was entirely his own. He was not in any way influenced by the NewZealand Rugby League, which had been most considerate. It was a hard decision to have to make but it waa a personal matter. He added that he was delighted that Mr. Doble had been appointed and was confident the tour would be successful. Mr. Campbell returned a wallet and 3 contents presented to him. but. the board insisted that he should retain the wallet. Owing to the departure of Mr. Doble, f Mr. F. T. McAneny was asked to deputiee on the New Zealand Council pending a 1 permanent appointment. Mr. E. Chapman was chosen as Press and call steward • at Cai law Park and Mr. »Probert was elected to the insurance committee. Saturday, congratulated all concerned and acknowledged the help of the Auckland League for the tour preparations. The proposal for a fixture at Auckland for the Central team, the champion senior side of Wellington, was considered, and it was decided to postpone the decision in the matter until after next Saturdays matches. A letter from the Taranaki Centre regarding a team visiting New Plymouth, "was referred to the senior clubs lor further consideration. Writing from Kuatoki North. Mr. W. Edwards, honorary secretary of Bay of Plenty Rugby League, said the code was progressing favourably in that district. Schutz was transferred from Papakuiii to Mount Albert and two registrations were approved.
