PLAGUE SHIPS.
Jewish Refugee Vessels Off Syrian Coast. BRITISH CRUISER PATROL. JERUSALEM, July 17. Plague has broken out in one of four ships carrying 2."><io Jewish refugees. which are lying off the Syrian coast after failing to penetrate the British cruiser patrol of the Palestine coast. Several victims died and their bodies were thrown overboard from the ship, after which 050 passengers were allowed to enter Beirut in order to disinfect themselves and land patients under quarantine conditions. A second vessel with f>oo Jews aboard, mostly from Hamburg, has tried to enter 14 ports. The two others are carrying Austrians and Czechoslovakians. All four are short of food and water.
