Quist In Form In Match With Philippines. FIRST SINGLES CONTESTS. (Keceived 12.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 14. The Australian Davis Cup team commenced their match to-day with the Philippines. Results were "as follow:— Adrian Quist (Australia) beat Sanchez (Philippines), o—l, o—2, 6—2. The entire match took under an hour. Sanchez was obviously nervous throughout the first set, in which Quist was content mostly to remain on the baseline. Quist sallied to the net in the last stages and put away numerous overhand smashes. Sanchez's forehand was particularly unsteady. In the second set Quist relaxed and had trouble with his forehand in the fifth and seventh games, permitting Sanchez to break through his service in each.
