SUNSHINE CAMPAIGN

Who Will Top The Ladder?

Dear Sunbeams— Yes, I know it is simply unbelievable. I can scarcely believe it myself. But there it is. In nine days the Campaign is to end. "Impossible, Wendy." I hear you all murmur, and that is just what I said to reter ran when he came briskly into Sunshine House a day or so ago and asked me whether or not I realised that July 24 was less than two weeks away. I was dumbfounded. I sat down limply on the case of quilts which a minute before I had been happily packmg. and gazed at Peter Pan in horror. You re joking. Peter Pan." I gasped. "It simply can't be three months since the campaign started " However, a hurried inspection of the nearest calendar revealed that this was indeed a fact. I was almost tempted to task Peter Pan to let us lengthen the campaign by a few more weeks—even perhaps by one or two. but just in time I remembered the PACT. The pact was made last January when Peter Pan and I were planning Budget activities for the year. We decided (very sadly on my part) that the Winter Campaign must in future last for three months only, thus allowing a "breathing space" between this activity and our Dig summer Holiday Campaign. It wouldn't do at all to work our Sunbeams too hard, we reasoned and it was very very necessary that they have a little spell "off duty" between the two campaigns. To all'of this reter ran and I agreed—thus the pact. So there you are—in nine days our Sunshine Campaign is to end. No more knitting—no more pretty patches—no more busy afternoons lining quilts or making baby clothes. As I wrote earlier in this letter I can scarcely believe it. However, there are still nine days left, so Sunbeams, can we make those nine days the very best in our whole campaign history? I have still a big list of little folk in this city who are in urgent need of our help You know the things we waiit most of all-don't you? Quilts first, of course, then "hotties" and baby clothes and provis l ons--anythirtg. in fact, that would make a nice gift for someone who is poor and sick.
