WHEN HOTELS CLOSE.
CHECK UP OF MOTORISTS. ACTION BY TRAFFIC OFFICERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTICHURCH, Friday. As part of its campaign to reduce accidents, the city traffic department has established a system of patrols under which a check up is made nightly at city and suburban hotels as closing time approaches. The chief traffic inspector, Mr. J. Bruorton, eaid to-day that every,evening, particularly on Saturdays, the department was having a check up outside hotels. The check up embraced both motorists and cyclists leaving hotels. Cyclists were included, as it waft a fact that there were numerous drunken cyclists who caused trouble. Inspectors engaged in the checking up procese were instructed to make sure that motorists or cyclists were in a fit condition to take to the road, added Mr. Bruorton. The measure was being taken to reduce road accidents and encourage road users not to take unnecessary risks.
