TRIAL GAMES.

NORTH BEAT SOfUTH. PROBABLES DOWN POSSIBLES. That interest jn the tour of the New Zealand Rugby League team of England is quickening was demonstrated on Saturday when the biggest crowd of the season attended at Carlaw Park to witness two further trial games. And they were not disappointed, for with the selectors' eyes on them the players gave of their best. Principal interest centred in the North and South Island encounter, and after a fast and willing game victory went to the North thirteen by the convincing margin of 35 points to 13. The Southerners, as usual, fielded a weighty and virile pack and solid backs and fought valiantly, particularly in the first spell, when they were only eight points behind. In the second spell, however, the North Island thirteen were irresistible, scoring some fine tries through sheer pace and splendid understanding. It was definitely the North's day. In the curtain-raiser the Probables outpointed the Possibles by 31 points to 17. The players made the play willing from bell to bell, but the game rarely rose to any great heights. In the inter-Island game tries were scored for the North Island by Solomon (2), Nurse (2), Tittleton, Mills and Ririnui, while Solomon converted one try and Hemi collected 12 points by converting three triea and kicking three penalty goals. For the South Island tries were scored by J. Clark, Davison and King, while Davison also kicked a penalty goal and converted one try. Try-getters for the Probables in the early trial were Leatherbarrow (2), Chinnery, Petersen, Gunning, Barnard, Banham, while T. Chase converted four tries and Shaw one try. For the Possibles tries were registered by Riley, Donaldson and Mahima, and J. Smith converted three tries and kicked a penalty goal.
