SOUTHERN SUPPORT.
HARBOUR BOARD ATTITUDE. (From Our Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The claim* in favour of Wellington being the central base for the transTasman air service will be supported by the Lyttelton Harbour Board's delegates to a proposed conference, but at the same time this will not prevent the claims for Lyttelton as the base from being pushed.
The board received a letter from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce inviting the co-operation of South Island organisations in approaching the Prime Minister in favour of Wellington as a central base for the service, and proposing a conference of South Island interests and of those in the southern portion of the North Island.
A note submitted by the secretary, Mr. C. FT. Clibborn, stated that in August. 1938. the board had decided to urge upon the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, the claims of Lyttelton as an airport for direct passengers from Sydney to Canterbury and southern parts of the South Island, and also supported the claims of Wellington.
