To the ringing sound of hakas, tbe match between tbe University men's and ladies' teams was commenced at Melville Park yesterday afternoon. After a keen game the men won by 7 goals to 2. It is probably the first occasion In New Zealand on which university women have participated in a hockey match against men students, and the fixture promises to become an annual one. Attired in skirts of every hue and pattern, the men were allotted positions most likely to be unfamiliar. The men were early on the attack and tbe girls were compelled to take the defensive In the first spell. Finding his attire no handicap, B. Herriott, the Auckland representative half-back, played a forceful game as centre forward, while M.' Speight (the University full-back) proved speedy on the attack as left inside.

The Indies Improved In the second spell, their hittiFip being clean and well-placed. A score by Miss .F. Bilkey was the signal for loud cheers and a haka. An exhibition of quick scoring was then given by the men. B. Hansen and A. Gifkins being responsible for good openings. From a melee in the goal-mouth Miss I*. Robertson added to the women's account. Though the game ended with the women on Hip attack no further score was registered. The umpires were Miss P. Dawson and Mr. I*, Crawley.
