MEAGRE EARNINGS.

WHANGAREI WATERSIDERS. STATEMENT BY OFFICIALS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. In a statement to-day officials of the Whangarei Waterside Workers Union said that during the past few weeks their earnings had been very meagre m spite of the fact that the steamer Kapiti, which is the regular vessel trading to Whangarei, had arrived with a full cargo. They quoted the following as their earnings:-Week ending June 16 £1 4/; June 23, £2 7/; June 30, £1 15/. The estimate for this week was £1 12/. . , * a \t the present time, it was stated, verv little cargo was being loaded at Whancarei for Auckland and though the dairying season was in. full swing, there would naturally be more work on each trip of the Kapiti, and it was stated that there was no margin left from their earnings. An occasional coal boat helped their finance while some of the men obtained a little casual work but general disatisfaction with their lot was felt by members of the union. _. —~—>^——
