NO SUNDAY HOCKEY.
ON WHAKATANE DOMAIN.
BOARD TO ENFORCE LAW. (From Our Correspondent.) WHAKATAXE, Monday. The use of the Whakatane Domain by sports bodies was discussed by the Whakatane Domain Board, wht.'h decided that Sunday play by hockey trams ■should be stopped, and that -the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union should l>e notified that in future, when it intends to make a fixed charge for representative matches, an application must be made to the board and the charges, advertised, according to law. It was claimed that the hockey authorities had not applied for permission to use the grounds, and it was also stated that, because of noisy barracking, many residents objected to the games being played on Sundays. It was ako pointed out that the cricketers played on Sunday, and that they had also failed to apply for permission. The chairman, Mr. G. A. Brabant, later stated that there had been unwarranted criticism of the board's administration of the domain, but that he hnd been assured it had not come from the Rugby Union. The board now felt that it must carry out the law by insisting on the union making proper application to charge for admission to matches.
