WHY NOT?
Seeing the predicament Mr. Nash has got us into by spending our substance in London to an extent that he has got below the danger level as regards, payment for qur debt service, may I advance a perfectly logical suggestion to get over the difficulty, seeing that credit is created in the banking system and virtually costs nothing; seeing also that the British Government forgave us our war debt of 180 millions; seeing also that Britain herself found it impossible to pay her war debt to America, to the tune of 1000 millions; seeing also that in August. 1914, the banks in England went bankrupt and the British nation had to come to their rescue' with the aid of costless Treasury money, etc. Seeing all these things and knowing that no one was any the worse for it all. I make this logical appeal that those who control our destiny should provide credit in the same manner as the above, only this time at cost. They did it before —why not do it again? Consumption if goods is preferable to starvation. H. S. WIXTHROP.
